The Palacio del Acebrón visitor centre is an old mansion-palace built in the second half of the 20th century and since refurbished to provide information about the ethnographic heritage of the Doñana National Park.
The exhibition entitled “Doñana and Man” invites visitors to discover different aspects and little known facts about the relationship of the local people with their natural environment. It describes everything from their chozas, the characteristic huts built using plants gathered locally, to their family structure. It focuses especially on the harshness of life in the marshes and on the traditional skills which evolved there, such as hunting, fishing and livestock breeding. The exhibition also looks at modern activities like strawberry cultivation, tourism and the hotel and restaurant industry, without forgetting deep rooted traditions such as the Saca de las Yeguas horse parade and the world famous Romería del Rocío pilgrimage.
The Palacio del Acebrón occupies an outstanding location in Doñana National Park alongside the middle-lower reaches of the La Rocina stream. Nearby there is a trail which takes us along part of this watercourse into a spectacular, extremely well conserved riparian forest.
