The visitor centre is located near the village of Aznalcázar just a few metres from the bank of the River Guadiamar. The facility serves as a starting point from which to explore the Corredor Verde route and the surrounding area. Thanks to the building’s outstanding location, from the top there is a fine view of the river and the leafy riparian forest which flanks it along this stretch. An old Roman bridge attests to the historical and cultural importance of the river and its basin.
The visitor centre offers detailed information about the significance and evolution of this Protected Environment. In the wake of the restoration work which followed the mining accident of 1998, the Corredor Verde del Guadiamar was inaugurated as an ecological corridor connecting Sierra Morena and Doñana and allowing animal species to move from one area to another. Visitors will also learn about the importance of the different types of landscape through which the Guadiamar flows: dehesa pastureland, cereal fields and marshes. The vegetation of these landscapes can be examined in a more leisurely manner at the Buitrago Botanical Garden nearby.
